ICY DOCK ExpressCage MB742SP B External Review

Great looking detachable SSD container. The device is very easy to install and is made of durable plastic. This is definitely not a professional drive container, so don't use it in such an environment. It won't last. For home use, this is a good complement to a desktop PC.

I really like this product but I think I have some problems with it. My system crashes when I plug it in. I pulled the drive bay out of my system and used the exact same drives but without the hot swap drive and my system works fine. I'm not sure what's going on with this device.

DOA arrived. Build quality seems extremely poor. I wish someone somewhere outside of China would start making such interesting and innovative products. I've used many hot swap drive systems and this one is a little weaker than most. However, if you are not a gorilla, this is not a problem. Replacing hard drives in trays is easy. It pairs well with black powder coated or textured cases, which are the most common these days. I liked it so much that I ordered a 2 x 2.5" with an empty 3.5" slot and a 1 x 3.5" bay to use for my desktop.

I docked this product to the 3.5" section of a 5.25" Hot Swap 2.5" 2-Bay SDD/HDD Dock and it worked in this situation it flawless. Both are ICY DOCK products that are purchased at different times and merged as needed. The sled is made of plastic and must be properly aligned with the tray when inserted as the plastic sled fits snugly into the containing 'tray'. Once you've done it a few times, you'll feel it. Well it fit in that space but I had to force it. However, the propellers are misaligned and now it just hangs in the tower. Now I have to hold the icy frame of the box with pliers, otherwise it just slides in when inserting the SSD and then I lose it. Other than that, I use cloning and imaging software on my Windows 10 computer and it works. I can't complain too loud. I could drill some new holes but then I'd have to take the whole MB out to avoid getting metal shavings on it. I wouldn't buy it

My first impression when I picked up the package was how heavy it was; The case design is solid and impressive. Shelves and latches are made of ABS plastic; However, the quality is above average. It is pleasing that the slots do not require tools, although the drives can be attached more securely with the screws provided; If I were going to use mechanical drives instead of SSDs, I would probably only choose this option to dampen possible vibrations. the SATA connectors on the drive are properly
