This is very cool. My Explorer has a huge unlit center console. But there is a cigarette lighter. So I use a small USB socket and plug it in. When I need light, I just plug it in. Pull out when not in use. The light is wicked bright. And yes, they come in packs of 5 from what I remember. tied together. You just separate them.

I bought them from another brand a while ago but because they are so small they get lost easily. The only drawback of this brand is the one-sided USB connection. I would prefer the light to face down when connected to a PC. Even at 40mA they can be annoyingly bright when plugged in with the lamp. Since they cost half as much as two-sided, they could be used with my emergency lighting phone chargers.

Much brighter than expected, more useful than expected. I just needed a simple power indicator so I could quickly and clearly see which of the gym treadmill's USB ports were actually getting power. I'd be happy with even a little light, but my goodness, these things are amazingly bright. I just held it over the LED with my thumb and it made my thumb glow like crazy. This worked great and then I started plugging them into other outlets around the house as little night lights.

Perfect little lights for 3D printed lithophane. My Showcase design (part number 2664506 on Thingiverse, under user Rebeltaz) was designed around this module, but I didn't make the base thick enough for the USB connector - it would be too thick - so I just cut off the end of the USB cable and soldered the wires directly to contact pads. If the LEDs are at the top and the pads are at the bottom, the contact on the right is positive and the contact on the left is negative. The middle two are data
