Slow cutting bamboo

I was making a beer holder and needed a 1-7/8" Forstner bit to fit the bottom of the glasses, I cut 5/4 of the bamboo and had to work very slowly so the wood doesn't smoke I thought it would cut like butter, maybe the wood was denser than I thought but it did what I wanted, just slowly
