They are acrylic so warmer than cotton but they are quite thin nothing like the nice warm socks I bought 10 and 20 years ago . However, they seem to be the only acrylic paints currently available, so I'll have to settle for them as my old ones are wearing and getting holes. I bought both the large and the extra large and ended up returning the large and keeping the extra large. As my feet are on the small side (shoe size 6.5) I think they will be too small for most adults.

I don't understand who designs modern socks, but they should be fired. There isn't a single person on this planet who could pull these socks over their calves and knees. The foot part fits as it should, but the rest is so tight my daughter hurt trying it on.
