They made heavier earrings more comfortable to wear throughout the day. They also reduce the likelihood of an earring being lost, either because it fell off unnoticed or because it was removed and forgotten to relieve discomfort.

These work best and are cheapest but are sized correctly for post wire they are different sizes and I have EVERYONE tried different ones.

I prefer these backs so I thought I'd be happy but the holes are too small for most of my earrings. Some of my earrings were purchased over 30 years ago and some are brand new but the pins are all too big for these backs. Disappointing.

Good thing they are sold separately from the earrings. I have several pairs of spikes that hang down due to their weight and normal backs don't help. I bought surgical steel, in case that matters. Never had a problem but the price was right so I bought the best ones.

I would like to rate the back of these surgical grade stainless steel earrings. Unfortunately I ordered them twice and both times the backs were without steel at all, just 100% plastic. I am happy to report that the seller understood the error and sent me the correct ones free of charge. Happy with the resolution, good product

Didn't suit us. I've been looking forward to getting them since using this type of backer many years ago. Came in the mail in a plastic postal envelope, with some protection which surprised me a bit. But when I took out the first pair and put them on, they sat so loosely on the racks I knew if I took two steps they would fall off and get lost.
