Description of πŸ”§ Enhance Efficiency with Jims USA Third Hand Belt Tension Tool

When torquing down the axle nut after the proper belt tension has been set (deflection), the welded axle nut will move to the low side of adjuster cam. This movement will allow the belt to lose adjustment. Place this tool over the welded nut on left side with the neck portion of tool resting over the swingarm. Hand screw the adjusting screw to take up any slack in tool. Torque the axle nut from the right side knowing that the welded nut will not turn allowing the belt.

Looks like a cheap version

The product I received is not exactly represented in the picture. What I got looks like a cheaper thinner version. Not worth it in my opinion.

Pros
  • Nice thing
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

I like using it but not sure how much it costs.

I like using it but not sure how much it really helps. You can't just lock it in place and use a single wrench, you still need to shift the torque properly, but at this point I think it does its job without movement, better in some ways than without - but always check your measurements.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Very expensive

Essential tool, best for fluids and maintenance

Great tool for tightening the rear axle on Harley Touring models. It locks the left side of the axle in place so you can focus on tightening the axle nut on the right side. This, along with George's Garage's Axle Torque Adapter, makes this job a breeze. Other technicians come to me, they use Jim's third hand. This is a great tool.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Almost everything is OK

Useful tool best in toolbox

This tool is made of forged steel. In the photos it looks like a forged instrument. (I also used plain metal, not painted black). This surprised me a bit, but for what it does it seems to work well. One odd thing with my tool was that the 37mm hex was punched almost off center. To do this I had to remove a small amount of metal where the tool meets the lower rear shock bolt. Another thing is that the bolt (my tool has a bolt, not a screw) that touches the swing arm is not hardened. The plastic…

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Functionality
