I was meaning to add one of these to my emergency kit and finally pulled the trigger last month after several earthquakes in LA. It's nice to know that in an emergency I have the opportunity to find out what's going on in the world and how to protect my family.

Very good compact emergency radio with everything I wanted: AA battery, crank, Li-ion battery, NOAA warning function (not just a NOAA radio), AM FM, alarm clock and sleep timer, good flash and siren for security. I was initially impressed with this radio. I wrote a rave review and ordered a second one. But after 6 months of daily use, both radios stopped working despite being stored indoors and used with care. Neither the handle nor the solar panel nor the USB input charge the radio. It works for a while if you put in new AA lithium batteries, but won't turn on after 8 hours of use. Radio carefully and tried to find the same BJY 18650 battery on the internet. I couldn't find a replacement on either…

Obviously being a DSP radio it has really good reception in the weather range, it doesn't show as a channel but as an actual frequency and the display is lit up for a while. So you have to turn the dial before the backlight turns on. The AM selectivity is pretty good, I can pick up weak stations very well but still have to consider the commonality with DSP radios, sometimes a station will sound louder if you key in a frequency to the left or right of the frequency. Update: seller kindly sent another radio (working!) of the same type. Quick response - kudos to them. It's unclear what to do with the Dead on Arrival unit. There are no return/exchange instructions in the packaging of the new package. E-mail back and forth is also not entirely clear. Need more guidance but now I have a working KA580 and I really like it. The workmanship is not great enough to earn 5 stars, but it is fully functional. Original message: Dead on arrival.
