Not sure if I should give this item 5 or 1 stars. Good quality product but described as "3ft x 4ft". By my calculations it will be 36 inches by 48 inches. The description goes on to say that this item is made up of 14 inch squares. Do the math. The actual size of the device is 42 x 56 inches. I have two different kits, one for my guinea pigs and one for my kids school books. I had something like this about 20 years ago when I was in college and I really hoped they were equal. This thing was very difficult to put together! You may be wondering why I gave 5 stars. Well, that's because it works amazingly! Once I got it set up, I could use it to organize all of my husband's work clothes. I placed the top 3 cubes with the hole facing up and not in front like the rest of the cubes. I bought it to build a bunny apartment. My rabbit has a lion head and weighs about 3 or 4 pounds. I didn't actually weigh it. However, he is crazy. (That's why we called him The Devil.) Good-- These shelves are a great way to display items in a store or organize a closet. The white color looks clean and they're much more durable than other brands we've bought in the past. Bad - we bought three of these units and none had instructions or full details! I built a giant play palace for our two guinea pigs using this large mesh kit and two 72" x 48" square corrugated plastic sheets from Home Depot. I took people's advice and bought a set of clear zip ties to secure my cage and I'm glad I did. Without connections, the structure is very unstable.
