I really don't like ordering clothes by my kids' ages but I think my son should be a medium size because I ordered by his height 10 years old and the shorts fit him. He says they're a little larger than his other trunks, but they're just the right length and have an adjustable drawstring and elastic waistband to make them work. He really likes the design and he likes the feel. He said the built-in underwear feels great. And of course they have pockets, which is always a plus.

I think I asked for size 7 (no size on label) and my son is 6 to help me determine sizing. These board shorts have an elastic waistband and a functional drawstring. There are two side pockets and one back pocket. The material is light and washes well. The inside is mesh lined and these shorts are about knee length for my son. They do look longer online, but my son doesn't seem to mind the length. The seams look great, there are no loose threads. The print/pattern is nice and my son loves sharks
