My fiancé works as a landscape architect and sometimes does construction work. He keeps coming home with things on his hands that he can't take off. No matter how short he cut his nails, you can still see the dirt in them. His hands are calloused, so they always look mottled. He said he wanted heavy duty soap so I bought him a Lava bar to try and he hasn't complained yet. His hands don't look like they've been covered in tar all day after washing them. He even washed the bathroom with bleach…

I'm glad I can still get it from Revain!

I use it all the time for almost everything: washing hands, showering, etc. I used to buy from my grocery store but with the pandemic decided to free up shelf space for Mexican hand sanitizer (with methanol :-) instead of lava soap waste. Luckily I can still get it here. My rating scale for different soaps in terms of "sandpaper grit": Marlowe = #60 - #80; Lava = #120 - #240; Duke Cannon = #320 - #400.

I love washing my face with lava soap!

I started using Lava many years ago when I was working on one of my machines to remove grease and oil and ran out of soap bar and used it once in the shower , after using it I was in the shower, I looked closely at the label because my face and skin was great, clean but not dry, and noticed that there were moisturizers in it. Since then I've been using it to wash my face, it exfoliates with a pumice stone and moisturizes. My girlfriend couldn't believe how light my skin got after I told her…

Great for removing fountain pen stains

As an avid fountain pen user, it's hard to avoid getting ink on your hands. Conversely, it's almost impossible not to look like you've killed someone or had an epic battle with inky sea creatures unless you're willing to pay for some pricey specialty products to wash that ink off. Until this soap came into play. I no longer have to worry about light ink smudges on my hands and strange looks around me as this soap helps remove most stains and leaves only a small shadow if ink residue remains…

Pros
  • Good product for the price

Harder to find in stores now.

Lava hand soap has been around for over 50 years. My grandfather and the rest of our family have been using it for generations and it is the best and most economical way to wash dirty hands. It has a pumice stone along with cleaning soap which is the secret. It is easier to carry - the bar can be put in your pocket, more environmentally friendly - the "container" is a recyclable sheet of paper. The rod lasts a very long time. Sorry, grocery and auto supply stores have abandoned this in favor of

A staple for all homeowners!

Lava has existed since gas was used for lighting. Although I'm not on the level of "Tool Maker Tim", I try to do things around the house and outside: painting, chopping, priming and mowing the lawn. Ordinary soap will never help, but lava will always help. Even for sap this works well as I had to chop down a few trees in what was once a thriving garden. Next up is painting, and lava is used to remove even the toughest paint from my delicate hands.

  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Can be harmful

Double pack consists of only one bar

I ordered this "double pack" with the description "Value Pack contains 2 lava bars packed as 1 unit" and only received one bar. Yes, I chose "Pack of 1" but there is no "Pack of 2" option and I assumed that "Pack of 1" was a double. Lava Bar alone deserves five stars, but since it shipped direct from Revain, there's nowhere to leave a review to warn others that you're paying $8 for a $4 bar of soap when you buy it.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Everything is fine
