Battery life for computers and tablets

I had one that was less than 2 years old and the battery needs to be replaced. What gives? This went beyond the standard 1 year warranty. I've never experienced this problem on a Mac before.

No touch screen. This is an excellent laptop. It is used for reading books quickly on your Windows desktop and computer with the feel and speed of a Mac.
