Total failure - avoid this product

Bought this Leviton light with the included Leviton light bulb 9865-13W - 13W - GU24. The pear only lasted 2 months. The replacement bulb from MaxLite lasted about the same. I am looking for a replacement instrument. Too much heat will build up in the housing and fry the onions. Of course, my opinion of the Leviton was downgraded as it's classified as a high-end lighting device. Not this one.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

The Cure for Open Bulb Lamps

Very beautiful to behold. Much better than the typical bare-bulb light, it offers a lower profile (shorter bulb), protection of the bulb itself, and little spread of light to boot. Easy to install - they like pigtails more than screw terminals. Have put about 5 of these in my basement so far and I'll probably keep adding more. Be warned though, they're about $2 cheaper at the Big Box Store.

Unreliable, look elsewhere

Should have followed the reviews here. I installed 5 of these units in our attic to replace incandescent lights, I thought they were safer. These devices work very simply, and yet in less than a year I'm replacing lightbulbs. I am currently looking for an alternative solution as the cost of replacement bulbs is only a few bucks less than the cost of the entire fixture. So I can also look around for a new device that costs me less.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging

Great for the closet

Current regulations (in my area at least) don't allow old lightbulbs in a closet. Since my contractor misplaced the light in the closet, I decided to buy some of these. It turned out to be a good choice. Installation can be tricky unless the control box is flush mounted, as was the case with one of the fixtures I replaced. But the effort was worth it. My electrician liked it so much he bought one of my extras from me (I ordered more than I really need) to use for another job.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Poor cover design Fits bulbs

I had a rare opportunity to put these 14 bulbs in the basement under my house. I really don't like the design in the sense that you can't attach the light to the ceiling box with the protective grille installed and the protective grille is held in place by two small (#6 x ΒΌ inch) screws. So you're lying on your back in a confined space in the dark (apart from your headlamp) trying to turn little screws... no fun. The light cover must have at least one screw cap. When the bulbs burn out, it's a…
