Worked: Replacement parts

Needed to hold timing chain when changing water pump in Malibu. I'll never understand why the engineer built it that way. but still, this tool got the job done.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Useless features

Quality Lisle tool does the job

Quality Lisle tool. Do not attempt to replace the water pump without this tool, or do it yourself. The timing chain must be tensioned, otherwise there will be major problems.

Pros
  • Solid finish
Cons
  • Can't remember

It's great for water pumps

Well it would be nice to use instead of removing the entire front cover from the engine and redoing both timing chains. I think it will sit around until I need it again or someone else I know will need it.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Hard to say

Done perfectly.

This product has proven to be excellent. It was right there. Fits perfectly on the water pump pulley. However. I recommend adding a flange to the bottom of the engine to close the gap in the timing case cover. Loosen one of those screws and it's game over. I will definitely buy this product again. Worth the money for the time and labor saved.

Pros
  • One year trial period
Cons
  • Minor repairability

Works well: Engine cooling and air conditioning

Does its job well. But if you have a lot of miles, I don't know if that's a good idea. These timing chains are no heavier than bicycle chains. And in my opinion, when you've got over 150,000 miles on it, it might be time to replace the timing chain and guides. Either way, you're halfway there. If you drop the bolt inward while using the tool, the cover should come loose. But with a car with fewer kilometers, everything is fine.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Protection

You'll need

If you've never worked with an Ecotec engine before, just know you need one of these if you want to do water pump work. Since these pumps are chain driven, you will need to hold the sprocket and other items to keep them from falling into the timing cover. Works as it should, not very convenient to use. And the price is right for the few times you can use it in your life if you're just a home mechanic and don't do it every day.

Pros
  • Pretty package
Cons
  • Fits

Worked great! in spares

I couldn't replace the water pump on my wife's '08 Pontiac Solstice without! This tool was easy to install/remove and held the gear in place with no rotation. The dealer also replaced the catalytic converter under warranty at the same time and wanted an additional $497 to replace the water pump. With this tool I replaced the pump myself for about $100 including the cost of the tool. I made a good living when I was an apprentice plumber, but I couldn't justify how long it took to earn the money…

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
