I didn't notice that in the product description.

I did not notice in the product description that it has a black and white screen. This is neutral for me: the display becomes more difficult to read, but it also extends the life of the charge. I bought it to replace a 500 that got lost on the first day of skiing and before I could find any hiding spots in Europe last winter, so the controls are familiar.

Unfortunately I'm disappointed

I bought it for almost $300 a few years ago. He was at the head of the Explorist line at the time. It's amazing how the price has come down. From day one, satellite acquisition was very slow. Often only after a few minutes to pick up a few. As this was my first GPS I assumed this was normal. After reading more GPS reviews I realized this is not normal. Magellan's customer service was virtually non-existent when I tried to contact them multiple times. Now, after two years of careful use, the GPS

Excellent entry-level GPS

The Explorist 400 GPS is an upgrade from my previous GPSr, a Garmin Geko 201. I use my GPS for geocaching, tracking waypoints for hiking and fishing, and for the Navigation support while driving. Pros: Background and detail maps are available. Expandable Storage; I have a 1GB SD card. Doesn't lose satellite reception in the woods like my Garmin. Long battery life (at least 12+ hours). Lightweight, buoyant and water resistant. Until I'm wrong useful for navigating while driving (MapSend…

Good enough to buy from GPS Finders & Accessories

I agree with other reviews. This device is completely useless unless you buy additional mapping software and a memory expansion card. So factor that into your total purchase price. My Revain device came with a $9.99 map software coupon (this offer may have expired). The battery life is excellent. The backlight is excellent. (has two levels of brightness) Excellent satellite tracking (I usually track 9-10 even in the forest. Only twice did I lose track and then I ended up in a deep canyon almost

Not as functional as some others

I bought this GPS because my Magellan Sport Track Pro was crushed. Long story. This device is easy to use and has most of the features that most users want to use. It has a few minor issues that most people won't have a problem with, but I don't like them. First, you can only set altitude, distance, and speed in metric or US values. On my Sports Track Pro you can set speed in miles per hour, distance in km and altitude in feet. I can imagine the distance in km but not the altitude. Some maps…
