Eh so so. - GPS, tracking device and accessories

Does what it's supposed to, just takes time. It takes too long at startup to figure out where it is. This is my third Magellan and I'm really not very impressed. As he moves, he twitches as if about to freeze.

Pros
  • Hands-free device
Cons
  • old

I love it! fits GPS, finder and accessories

This is my first GPS but I assure you that it does everything I need/want. It's NOT widescreen, but the screen is still big enough for a good view. It has options to search for local banks, restaurants, gas stations, etc. The voice is loud and clear enough as it gives you step-by-step instructions. One thing that confused me a bit was that I had to go into the "Options" to enable text-to-speech. The default setting only announces whether you are turning right or left. Once you convert text to…

In the end it's not that bad.

I waited to buy until I found what I needed (US, Canada and Mexico maps). I appreciate the easy installation, simple and clear instructions, and size. I read more about the product AFTER purchasing it and found that I would need to upgrade the maps in addition to the purchase (I didn't). Don't come with the latest maps!) Although I was disappointed that I had to order an upgrade and then thought I ordered the wrong upgrade for the product I bought, my experience with the tech support staff was…

Easy to use but failed to route

I updated the firmware and ordered the latest Spring 2009 card before testing this unit. The volume is barely loud enough and could be better. The colors on the screen are a little washed out and difficult to see during the day. Here I compare the Magellan's capabilities to my 3 year old text-to-speech GPS. Pros: 1. Very easy to enter destinations 2. Much better POI 3. Very cheap for a proprietary device Cons: 1. Routing is weird. I checked my trip 7 miles from home to work. No matter which…

Excellent product @ $95

A little background - I've resisted buying a GPS unit in the past for various reasons, but after spending hours reading specs and reviews on many units, I have i have decided i will buy it. The decision was mainly based on value for money and the addition of MEXICO MAPS as a STANDARD feature rather than a $40 or $60 option only on a few select devices like Garmins. I chose the available TomTom models mainly based on the fact that the Magellan has an SD card upgrade slot and backup/restore…
