It grabs the pencil so the motor(?) stops turning. If he manages to sharpen it, he'll let the graphite fall out, so he has to keep sharpening until he eats the whole pencil. I would like to return it but not sure if I still have the box it came in.

The sharpener is completely unusable. The position of the pencil is unstable, the sharpener just grabs it and twists it out of hand. The description is not clear enough regarding the fact that this device is a conventional sharpener with a blade stuck in a cavity and above a rotating gear. If you're looking for a proper sharpener with gears that sharpen a pencil, then this isn't it. Go and buy something more expensive and much more useful thing.

I'm deducting from 4 or 5 stars because of a design flaw that makes it too easy to open the shaving tray and make a mess when you take your pencil out of the sharpener. This has happened at least 4-5 times so far and now I know I have to hold the tip when I take out the pen but my kids can't.
