Those are really big powers.

These are really powerful minds. Very powerful and relatively quiet at 300 GPH and literally almost half the price at my local pet store. I've bought penguins in the past and still have a few. They last a long time and work well. Over the years I've noticed improvements in things like the air hose assembly, including more stable mounting options. Although there are many newer and more efficient aquarium systems these days. If you're looking for a high-performance head at a great price, look no…

  • Absolutely amazing!

I have had two of these pumps for 3 years.

I have had two of these pumps (version 1140) for 3 years now. They never gave up and were mostly silent. From time to time the motor blades will rattle for some reason after the pump has stopped, but this is usually a quick fix by disconnecting and reconnecting or realigning the shaft. I've never had to change motor blades. Good little pump for the price. Moves a lot of water for its size and is very versatile with all the accessories you get. 4 stars because of random noise as described above.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Clarity

I ordered 145 for my freshwater aquariums. Both of my aquariums need a pressure head for better circulation, but being unfamiliar with this aquarium equipment I decided to start with one. 145 is pretty good for my 40 gallon grower. I see water flowing with my plants while my sand stays in place. I think I would have preferred the slightly higher flow option, but it might be just right for this tank. I need to increase my size by 75 to get what I want. Bonus: My fish love swimming in and out of…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Without automatic controls

Bought two, one keeps dying.

I bought two of these for my 45 gallon gravel pack. One works fine. The other keeps stalling, requires removing the impeller, reinstalling the impeller, and pushing the inlet strainer to start it. It never works for more than a few hours before freezing again. The garbage inlet is null and the rest continues to function normally. Slightly disappointed that the return window closed as it ran just over four weeks. The second continues to work normally with no errors, but it's a pity to buy three…

  • I don't really like it, it's ok

Not noisy and works great.

Bought this for my 38 gallon bowfront bottom filter because I was fed up with air pumps, air stones and hoses. I had to play around with it a bit to fit it properly to the vertical tube and cut the tube to the right length. Seems to be quite powerful as it sucks out some debris from under the filter plate and definitely increases the efficiency of the gravel pack and water circulation. I bought three more at a big sale and added two to my 55 and one to my 30 gallons. I'll keep diffusers and…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction

  • Not sure

Been using it since the early 90's

Bought my 55 gallon in 1992 and have been using Marineland powerheads ever since. Considering that aquarium marketing has changed and powerheads are no longer part of the "gravelless filter debate". But now the impellers are ridiculously expensive, I usually buy 5 packs for about $15, now only one costs more. . So after searching and searching I decided to just go ahead and get new ones. So I bought 2 and after installing one of them was loud and rattling right out of the box (sounded like you…

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Used to be great but newer versions are awful

I had a 15 year old version of this power head that was getting noisy. Replacement wheels cost almost as much as a new drive head so I decided to just buy it. Unfortunately, the design seems to have changed. It's made from cheaper plastic, with a much longer power cord, and most importantly, a redesigned intake. The old version fitted perfectly onto the vertical gravel pack tube with the screen removed and could be kept pretty much "free standing". In the new version, the inlet is significantly

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Replacement availability

1 star out of 660 (5 stars out of 550)

Apparently Revain won't let me write two separate reviews. As I said below, I have several 550s, but last time (May this year, now August) I bought one, the 660 was noticeably cheaper. Now I know why: It's DOA. No, not blown up. I have many pumps, I know how to clean them and keep them running smoothly. The thing gets no power at all. It's not even three months since he died. I love the 550 but this 660 is a piece of junk. Attention buyers. It's louder than the 550 (and not because it produces…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • I'll write back later
