Melissa & Doug Clay Play Activity Set Review

I love all Melissa and Doug products. This set is much nicer than the plasticine plastic sets. It comes with small dough containers, but they're tiny, so we bought several full-size clay containers to go with them. But I have found that the real clay dries a lot quicker when left open than the containers that come with the kit!

These clay toys are great! I like that they are made of wood and can withstand heavy play. Each clay jar has an imprint on the lid and the clay is very easy to remove from the molds, leaving cute, recognizable animal shapes behind. My 2.5 year old was able to use all of the hand tools with minimal assistance (although I hid the scissors for now)

2.5 year old loves plasticine. She only used plastic-topped spoons and knives for her play dough, and I ended up bringing her this double set. she loves them Every day he plays with plasticine. Excellent fine motor skills. She loves cutting dough with scissors. Big sister loves to play with little sister and plasticine now they have real tools to use. We've had them for a few months now and they seem to be very sturdy. My children are 2.5 and 7 years old.

I really like it but my 4 year old son played with it just like any other plasticine set. That is, they play with him for several days and then get tired. I take it off and take it back from time to time. In my opinion this is the best set for a 1-2 year old child. Or a cheaper set of plasticine will do as well. I wanted so badly for him to like it more and he played with it every day. Although maybe it's just him!

Everything in the set is of excellent quality...except the moulds. They are very thin plastic, like you would get from a doctor. My 2 year old is very independent but these bins are not very kid friendly so he really can't handle them without help. They will most likely become corrupted and I'll have to find something else to keep the sound. I also want the boxes to have lids so they can be used for storage...my son was upset when we had to put him away. Overall I would recommend this set.

My 3 year old son loves it! were made from wood rather than plastic, making them more durable than the plastic versions in the fun Play Doh set. There are more varieties of rollers (small rolling pins) and scissors than a plasticine fun kit. The tools work with the Play Doh as the included "sculpting dough" is very similar to the Play Doh (I can't tell them apart). I wish there were cases in the kits for more convenient storage.
