As an occupational therapist who works with weak and arthritic hands, I have tried every can opener available. This is by far the best and works for most of my patients.

Bought for a friend with arthritis in her fingers who had trouble opening juice bottle caps. The small gripping range worked great for her, and she was able to successfully open tight, secure, and airtight lids on half-gallon juice containers.

I think this is a cheaper version of the original. The part that bites into the lid is too thin and will just cut off the top for hard objects. Also, the mechanism that locks it in place is pretty flimsy. I would imagine his training version would work pretty well, but that's the way it is.

before I found out today that an additional 1/4 inch length is needed to fit on the lid of the DelMonte Grapefruit Jar. Otherwise it's a good [although a heavier one would be more durable] replacement for our old [and discontinued] Gilhoolie [although it was an even narrower width].

EXCELLENT! Contrary to some negative reviews, this can opener is durable. Everything in stainless steel. And effortlessly opens every glass. Just like my grandma did when we were kids. And it works just as well. A NOTICE. I've also used Kichwit and Swing-A-Way. They work equally well and can be a bit easier to use.

This is the original Gilhoolie can and bottle opener. If you search Revain for "Gilhoolie Jar Opener" you'll get an opener that will do anything, but it's no use and it's currently $39.99. My mother had the original in the 1930's which I inherited but when my granddaughter used it she wanted it so it went away. So happy to receive one of the original designs, thanks Revain!

I had this can opener, inherited from my parents, used for over 50 years. I'm not sure if this one will last that long. It's much lighter and feels a bit thin. The ratchet works in a two-stage mode that takes a little getting used to, but once set, you can use the handle's leverage to open any can. Tip: If it's still a little slippery, put a rubber gripper/can lid opener on the lid (you know, the ones they give away for free) before attaching this opener.
