Updated - Great Customer Service

*Update* Icstation contacted me and they resent my order and all the boards arrived in perfect condition and worked as expected. The packaging is everything. I'm glad they reached out to me and got it right. Excellent customer service, thank you. All inductors on the boards are defective and packed in ESD bags. The debris is still sealed in a small static bag along with the board. So 1 out of 4 came out as it should. I measured 1 broken one I opened and it measured correctly.

  • Nice Packaging

MT3608. Not LM2577. Slim boost control.

So this is actually a MT3608 based boost converter. I know this because the LM2577 is a TI part and does not come in a SOT23-6 package. I was able to kill one of them simply by testing by applying a voltage to the input and checking the output voltage (the input was much less than 20V). It stopped switching and started using electricity. I'll have to try others to see if they die too. Initially, however, there was a good stable output voltage. I will update the rating depending on the result…

All 4 are defective. Terrible fluctuations, large current draw over 100mA

I bought this based on mostly good reviews. I was hoping to use them to boost the voltage of a 3.7L LiPo battery to 5V at less than 500mA. All 4 failed miserably. They were fine at 100mA (see attached trace). The output signal began to fluctuate above 100mA and began to draw significant supply current. Another oscilloscope trace shows a 200mA output signal. From there it only got worse. All 4 devices behaved the same, so it is not a single component failure. I've tried multiple input and output

How to use it to increase voltage from solar panel.

Also known as buck converter, adjustable output voltage. up to 15V direct voltage. I used it to see if I could boost it enough to charge a 12vdc power bank. For example, use it to boost the voltage of a solar panel with an output voltage of only 5VDC, boost a 2A power supply to 12VDC, detect and start charging, and also feel very cold. Plugged it into 12V DC car LEDs, saw them draw about 3 amps and it heated up quickly. Connected to a 25 watt grow LED strip, it didn't get hot, but it didn't…

They worked perfectly.

I was a little hesitant due to some feedback that some of the four packages weren't working. I can say that the first two I took out of the box worked great, but I haven't tried the other two yet. I have one set to 9 volt output to charge my Midland radios. If I remember correctly, this charging station only draws about 0.4 amps. And the other I installed on the 10 volt output for a portable radio amateur's basic charger. This starts to draw about 1.2 amps and stabilizes to about 0.8 amps…

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Poor design. The MT3608 is prone to catastrophic failure. I recommend using input fuses if the power supply is rated for high currents. I had one unit - MT3608 literally exploded and caught fire when it failed. Three more blocks failed. The IC in this design is very unreliable. I took two dead units and reworked them. Replaced MT3608 with Microchip's (from Digikey) MIC2250. The 22 µH inductor was replaced with a 10 µH coil. replaced the Schottky diode with a 1N4148 silicon diode - more…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Expensive
