Nalgene Kids OTF Bottle Blue Review

I have to press VERY hard for the lid to snap into place. A child, let alone a baby, will not be able to securely close the lid in any way. And I'm not even talking about the metal ring that keeps the lid closed. The metal ring does not close at all. It seems very difficult for a child. I will return this bottle.

We had to switch from a straw drinker as our little one outgrew slow feed. This bottle was a great transition from a non-spill straw bottle to a regular tumbler. We had a few splatters with it, but not too bad. Easy to wash. Only two pieces. It may be difficult for a child under the age of four to open the lid, but it is 100% leak proof when the lid is closed and locked.

It's really tiny! I know I should have known about the ounces but I guess it didn't look that tiny in the pictures. my bad so no points for it but just a hint. My son loves it but he's 8 and could use a little more. I also don't expect it to last very long as the clasp is all plastic! he hardly snaps! I bought a total of 6 pieces for three children (primary school age). They're small enough (12 ounces) to not drink all of the water in one sitting, so it's handy that they don't have to lug around a large container. I love that they don't have any accessories that require extra cleaning (like straws, silicone mouth holes). No other brand compares to Nalgene for durability and quality! My oldest child has had a 12oz leak proof bottle for 3+ years. My wife and I have had the same design in 24oz for 5 years, before that I had the original 32oz screw top design. I have three of these bottles. My 4 year old can open and close the bottle very well. It takes some effort but after a while you get used to it and it actually helps build a little more muscle/develop your motor skills. We've used a Contigo baby bottle in the past, which is fine but gets moldy in hard-to-reach places. The product is as expected except the product photo shows a shape/indentation for the thumb grip whereas the product delivered has completely smooth sides.
