Very soft and warm. I bought size 7-10 and it fits my 7 year old perfectly. Not suitable for my 10 year old. It's a tight but soft fit. He can't keep the material on his chin under his lip, so he keeps pulling it under his chin. Since he doesn't wear it like he should, it doesn't cover his face like I'd like. It definitely keeps him warm though and makes good cozy winter wear.

I ordered a size 8-12 and my son is 5. Although the hat fits my son perfectly at this size and has enough room to probably last him another season; I think an older child will be very comfortable. Love this hat! It's a bit thinner than I expected, but given the nature of the material, should keep you warm enough. If I think it's going to be particularly colder than a normal snowy day, I can always put a hat on him or his hood (which I usually do with regular hats).
