Good machine, bad recipe

Spaetzle machine works great. This is a simple machine that will save you a lot of time. Cleaning is easy. Simply place the two parts under hot water. The only thing I can fault is that the recipe on the box doesn't work very well. 3 cups of flour and 3 eggs are needed for 1 cup of liquid. The result is a fairly firm dough that cannot pass freely through the holes in the machine. It's best to reduce the ratio to 2 cups flour, 2 eggs, and 1 cup water. Mix with a fork or use a mixer on a kitchen…

Good spaetzle maker for the price

This spaetzle maker definitely does the job and it's a lot easier than the "scratch method". We eat a lot of German food, so I regularly cook spaetzle at home and I needed a new tool. I bought this one because the design was similar to my old one. Spaetzle come out evenly and perfectly sized. The only thing that confuses me is that my batter tends to overflow the hopper. (It works under the hopper and makes a bit of a mess, doesn't roll in the hopper as efficiently as the old one.) Maybe it…

They love homemade pasta with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes

I bought 4 pieces for my adult children. You love homemade pasta with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and this is the easiest way to make it. Make a batter out of 7 raw eggs in the kitchen, add flour until batter is sticky and eggs are incorporated. If the noodles are too wet, they won't rise, you don't need that, if the noodles are dense and hard, you used too much flour. Practice makes perfect pasta try again and again. You set your nopro on a saucepan of boiling salted water, pour a cup of…

Big hole, not quite stainless steel

A few years ago I tried to make spaetzle using a colander and the back of a spoon. I ended up with a big mess and gave up. Recently Jim and I took our sons to a local German restaurant. We had spaetzle in several ways, as an accompaniment to my goulash, as a mushroom dish and it was delicious. I decided to start making spaetzle again, this time using equipment specially designed for the job. The Norpro works well, a good sized bowl to fill and then dipping back and forth in boiling water. The…

Money Well Spent!: Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

This was a purchase I will never regret. There are mixed reviews for this product, but in my experience I've had perfect spaetzles from the very first time. I found the Norpro 3129 Stainless Steel Spaetzle Maker to be very easy to use and fairly easy to clean. First spaetzle. Some say the recipe on the box is perfect, others say it's not. I compared my spaetzle recipe, which is passed down from generation to generation, and the difference to the recipe on the packet was half the number of…

why did i wait so long?

I bought this almost a year ago but since then it's just taking up space in my office. A few days ago I decided to give it a try. I had my doubts about that from the start, mostly because I had the image of a big mess in my head. I couldn't see the dough falling through the holes without help and imagined it would take at least 4 hands to do all the work. Boy was I surprised! The container holds a full cup of batter and as I started moving it back and forth I found that it automatically flips…

Easy to use but expect it to be messy

The highlight is that the result is amazing. And so that the handle does not melt, as some warn. This is a well-made tool. It doesn't produce the long, broken spaghetti spaetzle that comes out of the original German tool that looks like a garlic press (and costs 3-10 times as much). Instead, you get fresh chickpea-sized pasta that Mario Batali prepared in his kitchen. Continue reading the recipe. But first, watch out: wash immediately after use so you don't have to scrape off dry dough in the…

The perfect spaetzle right away!

What a great addition to my kitchen! I really wanted spaetzle, but I had never made any. The recipes I found on the internet kept referencing "Spaetzle Maker" so I went to Revain to find it. After reading many reviews I decided to buy Norpro 3129 stainless steel. I'm excited! Both the perforated plate and the extraction funnel are made of durable stainless steel. The funnel has a thick plastic edge that allows it to slide smoothly over the rounded edges of the board. The handle has a rubberized
