Negative - and that's a BIG negative!: It cannot be opened without the help of the hands. The entire lid has to be removed every time we add a new diaper to the bucket. This means that the odor is released with every diaper change and the carbon filter is nullified. It also means it's impossible to open/close them if you also need to keep your hand moving when the baby moves or have a handful of a dirty diaper. Delivery was quick, no damage. I have been using this product as a cloth diaper for about 6-8 months. I paired it with two Planetwise 13 gallon reusable bucket liners. Works like a boss. It also works well with 13 gallon kitchen waste bags for disposable items. I bought more than there were metal handles. I see that the one currently for sale is plastic. Received my bucket today, it came in a poorly packed box the below half open, revealing a bucket with a thin paper bag-like lid on top.
