The base is different from another brand. Bilge Switch

This is more of a tip than a rating. The base is slightly different from the Seachoice base. This was very important to me as I was replacing the Seachoice switch. The float was in a hard to reach spot so it was a PIA. If I knew that, I would buy a Seachoice float.

Pros
  • Easy Installation
Cons
  • Coarse

20% failure rate: boating and sailing

I bought 5 of these. One of them works most of the time, but when the water reaches the depth, it stops working. It needs to be manually pressed down to work again. If you pull on it with your finger, you will eventually notice that the pump switches off. In other words, if the water gets deep enough, it exerts enough pressure to go past the "on" point, collapse, and then get stuck there with the pump inoperative.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Appears to be well built. Power on/off is reliable and stable.

Appears to be well built. The on/off points are constant and the float rotates smoothly. Looking at the reviews of some other bilge pump switches, this one turns out to be one of the best. It almost looks like a clone of the Rule 35A bilge pump switch, right down to the removable base and bolt spacing. This is important to me because I don't want to install the switch and then when it fails I find that it's no longer available and I have to plug old holes and drill new ones.

Pros
  • Delightful
Cons
  • Volume

Switch failed after only two days, float stuck in up position

Float lever stuck in up position. There was no debris or anything preventing it from falling when the water level dropped. As a result, he worked for several hours with the float raised, but without pumping water. It was used as a switch replacement in the marine shower drain box, so there is only clean water there. If it was in the hold of a boat, it would likely result in thousands of dollars in fines for dumping spilled oil on the bilge water. As if it "only" destroyed the pump.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Socket required

No worse than most float switches, low cost.

Most float switches currently available are of very low quality. Jabsco, Johnson's versions tend to be bad, Attwood makes decent ones but cost twice as much as these. I believe you will get MAXIMUM for 1-4 years in the market. However, most pumps fail due to poor connections or crimped wires, so I'd go with those over $60 and use resin connectors and/or heat shrink tubing. Do not overtighten the bolts when attaching to the bilge or bracket. I've always mounted them to a thin/long stainlessโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Cool item
Cons
  • Some nuances
