Didn't last very long.

After about two weeks (and maybe two or three uses) the metal part of the knife has come loose rendering the product unusable. Before that I would say it worked as expected and I was happy with it. Ultimately, he cut open about a dozen eggs before meeting a very sudden and untimely death. Disappointing to say the least.

  • Nice appearance

Broke on first use after only 4 discs!

I love OXO products. I have always relied on their build quality and ease of use. I was totally shocked when it broke the first time I used it. It broke on the fourth mushroom I tried to cut. The wires have come loose. I bought this to replace an egg slicer I've had for the past 30 years. It still worked, but I just wanted a nicer egg slicer. So I'm sorry I dropped it.

  • Finally understood

Revised review for Egg Slicer

I'm editing this review because the product failed after only half a dozen uses - just slicing hard boiled eggs and a few mushrooms. The attached photo speaks for itself. This product has not been abused in any way and has only been hand washed. I'm beginning to think that there just isn't a quality, durable food slicer out there. We had another one (not purchased through Revain) that also failed quickly. I will contact OXO to see if I get a response. In general I think they make good productsโ€ฆ

for roughly chopped eggs for dishes like potatoes or pasta salad

Where have you been all my life?! Why did I use a knife? I should have tried one of these things years ago. I will never cut eggs by hand again. It reduces the work to a fraction of the time it used to take. I cut twice, once crosswise, once lengthwise, for coarsely chopped eggs for things like potato or pasta salad or coarsely chopped egg salad. Three cuts for a small cut in a square for smaller cuts in egg salad, cut once across, rotate 1/4 turn and cut again, then flip lengthwise and cut aโ€ฆ

Top Shelf Dishwasher safe - may be

The packaging says it's dishwasher safe but I'm not sure if it is. Of course there's plastic, but I'm not sure about the wires. If you wash them by hand, you will find that water collects on them after washing, indicating a low surface energy coating. If the wires were bare metal they would have high surface energy and water would wet the surface. I'm guessing using Teflon, which is slowly soaked with a caustic dish soap solution and hot water. So you wash it by hand. never mind And for whatโ€ฆ

Perfect Egg Slicer: Egg Slicer

Who would have thought an egg slicer would be hard to find. Not me. Last time I picked up a cheap one and was like, hey, it's wires and plastic, it'll cut eggs. What can go wrong? A bunch of everything. A lot can go wrong. When my old lady bit the dust. Frame? (Hmm. There's a joke in there somewhere.) I went online and read about 234857312 reviews in search of a replacement. And I went for it, even though it seemed terribly expensive. (It's just wires and plastic, after all!) This is a reallyโ€ฆ
