Enjoy your best buy DVDR

I have just received my new DVDR and this is my first Philips product that I have ever owned. I am very happy with the good design from Philips, they had a better product and idea than Panasonic. I have many Panasonic products at home, I thought they were better, but I was wrong. Compare this DVDR with the Panasonic DVDR, it will completely change my perspective. This set offers better reception than the Panasonic DMR-EZ47 or DMR-EZ17 (both have a digital jog dial, but it keeps skipping…

Digital Video Recorder

This product works as a digital video recorder. The main reason I bought it was the ability to record digital channels (via an antenna since I don't subscribe to cable or satellite TV) when I'm away from home. Like a VCR, it records from the specified channel at the specified time, and it does it well. The 160 GB hard drive and adjustable recording quality levels enable recording times from 25 hours (best quality) to 155 hours (worst quality). Unlike a VCR, you can simultaneously record a…

No monthly fee for TV and video

At first I looked everywhere for a hard drive burner because I didn't want to make a DVD for all the shows we wanted to watch. And I didn't want to pay monthly fees like with TIVO. As of March 2009, this product was not available from Wal-Mart in our area and from any other retailer recommended in the Philips online store. So I had to pay about thirty percent more than Wal-Mart's original retail price of about $290 through Revain. But I have to say, the quality of the recording on the hard…

  • Secret

I'm one of the few who still record TV shows, but not via cable, satellite etc. Only the good old free TV on the air. Since all transmissions will be digital from February 9th, I needed a new digital video recorder with a built-in digital tuner. I also wanted to be able to record hours of TIVO-style programming without worrying that the DVD would fill up after 8 hours. This is the only recorder I've found that doesn't charge a monthly or yearly fee for a recorder programming service like Tivo…

Great for timer recording

Bought 2 months ago and liked it so much I bought a second one so I can record programs from 2 channels at the same time. I hate paying a monthly fee for anything, so I always set the VCR to timer record from the aerial. But it won't work after February. What no one tells you is that the transducer block doesn't allow this because the channel selection is done in the transducer, not the VCR. So this DVR is the solution and it's the only one if you don't pay a monthly fee for cable and something

An excellent VCR replacement, but only in standard definition!

We bought this unit to replace our VHS video recorder for recording TV programs from the new digital radio waves. This is a significant advance over the old analog technology, but it's not in the realm of high resolution at all. As far as it's designed for recording TV shows, it does an excellent job. Its interface for show programming is much the same as vintage VCRs from the 1990s, although one of the biggest design flaws is that the programming is not retained when the power is turned off…

Very happy with TV and video

I read several reviews on this site before purchasing this item. I was pleasantly surprised that this unit can record a program and play back a pre-recorded program at the same time. Based on the reviews here I have the impression that this is not the case. I was wrong, that's it. Also, I have no problem recording one program and watching another on a digital TV. As I said in several other comments, I connected it to the antenna with a splitter. One side of the splitter feeds the TV and the…

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

I bought this after I got a completely overhauled Philips DVR3575H whose drive no longer responded. Philips said they would send me another device. A day or two later I got a call that they didn't stock any of these units and offered to buy back my faulty unit. So I bought another HDD DVR. I found the DVR3576H at Revain as a brand new unit. It was about $170 more than a refurbished DVR3575H, but I still wanted a DVR with a hard drive and an HD tuner. I really like this device. It has its pros…
