Salo with pepperoni is excellent. The birds peck and enjoy the treat, but the squirrels don't. I saw a squirrel climb up and gnaw. Didn't stay long and didn't see the squirrel return.

Most Salo products have 1 to 5 star ratings. I took a stab at this lard, and downy woodpeckers love it. We have a lard feeder that repels rodents and large birds, so grackles and mockingbirds are unhappy. Even the red-bellied woodpecker could stick its big beak in and eat some of it. He liked it too.

Birds love this spicy pepper fat, mostly lots of crested mouse, tits and a few wrens and house finches, nuthatches. If we use a different flavor of bacon then at night we have seen the creatures (possums, raccoons) climb onto the feeder and eat it overnight. Not so with this pepperoni and the birds love it!

Pepperoni in lard doesn't deter birds, but it definitely deters squirrels. After not one, not two, but three squirrels were on top of all that fat (even hanging upside down from a star hook), my conclusion was that there was zero pepper in those greasy cakes. I can't say enough good things about this product. I have a lard cake hanging near my home office and enjoy watching the birds it attracts every day. I have found that repelling squirrels is good. Squirrels sometimes take multiple bites, never to come back. But the birds seem to like it.
