The vernier is useless

Because the lines on the vernier don't reach the border between the two pieces, it's impossible to tell which of the lines exactly match. These calipers are probably accurate to around 0.5mm (while with a serviceable vernier they will give answers to 0.05mm as long as the markings are evenly spaced). Handy for offensive environments, but I wouldn't buy them again.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Difficult to read - good for demonstration of use

I didn't expect an accurate quality tool (2 for) to cost $5.50. I just wanted something a student could pick up and measure a few things in the lab after explaining how to read the measurements. The kit included a black and a gray caliper. The numbers are legible, but the top and bottom marks on the main scale (fixed part) do not reach the top and bottom of the main scale, respectively; That means there's a significant gap between the markings on the slider and the main dials, making itโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Know what to expect

Definitely a toy. Not quite vernier gradations. In instrument trading, we called the best of them (Starrett, Brown and Sharpe) "very close". At best, they are accurate to within 0.001 inches. Again, this is a toy. Bought them for my grandchildren. They are graduated to 1/128 inch and 0.05 mm. But good luck reading them so carefully. They're about as accurate as a tape measure. These are toys too. Well, if you need another way to measure and gauge diameter better than a tape measure, then go for
