The best alternative to a chest strap

If you take your training data seriously, you depend on the accuracy of your heart rate monitor. Unfortunately, most optical wrist sensors are extremely inaccurate during activity. This gives you two options: a chest strap or an optical sensor on your arm. The chest strap is the gold standard for precision, but incredibly uncomfortable. This is where optical hand sensors come into play. They fall into the "good enough" sweet spot. They are precise, reliable and more comfortable than a chest…

Background: My Apple Watch Series 4 often doesn't register my heart rate (no reading on 4 of my last 10 runs) and sometimes reads incredibly high, over 200 bpm max and 180+ bpm on average (I'm too old and not stressing myself enough to read this). It does its job well, but with a few disadvantages

I got this heart rate monitor mainly for running and cycling. There are some things I like about it, but there are some things I don't like/that I think potential buyers should know. For comparison, I'm looking at another Polar product, the H10, an ECG-based chest monitor. Pros: Turning it on and off is pretty easy. That's probably one of its biggest advantages over the H10.- It's pretty forgiving where you put it. That means you don't have to place it on a specific part of the arm. Works…

Pros
  • Fitness technology

  • Not as thick as others

UPDATE: I was finally able to contact Polar. Sent them a monitor and got it pretty quickly. I'm not sure if they repaired or replaced my broken one. I haven't had any issues since the warranty was met so I'm increasing my rating from one star. Definitely much better chest monitor. much more convenient. ################################################# # ##################################### For many years I had nothing but disappointment from heart rate monitors , mainly due to the difficulty…
