Best starter ever! fits starters and alternators

This starter is great, small but powerful, lightest starter I have ever fitted. It fitted my Chevy 350 engine perfectly, no gaskets were required. Ease of installation. The starter comes with two long screws. Most Chevy SB starters have staggered bolts (1 long and 1 short). I had to use my original short screw and a new long one. The starter cranks my engine like a new Ferrari. Excellent purchase!

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • No performance

Works great on 406 small blocks. Flywheel 9.5 to 1 168 teeth

starter motor comes with easy instructions. I wouldn't recommend just screwing it on without checking the clearances. This starter is a power unit and clearances must be checked for proper operation as described. Mine had to remove the .065 shim for proper gear depth and no shims between the starter and block. So far it works great and starts up quickly.

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • all right

Cheap and about half as reliable

In the last three years I have bought 4 of these for various project vehicles. Everything is fine with the first one, it's been three years. The second solenoid burned out on the third day. The third works perfectly after 6 months. Finally, the bracket burst during the 3rd attempt to start. There's a reason most mini starters cost a few hundred dollars, and this one costs $110. If you feel like rolling the dice in the beginning, you have a 50/50 chance it will last and work.

Fits old LT-1, good starter.

Good start. Fits my 95 Impala SS (which Amazon says doesn't fit). Includes 3 screws (2 long, 1 short) and 2 spacers. Pretty versatile for older GM engines as there are 3 bolt holes to choose from. Leaves a small gap at the bottom where the older larger starter covered it About half the weight of the "smaller" OEM starter I had to remove the bottom starter cable bracket to get the extra few inches of cable I needed (because it's shorter than is the original). Very happy with this product.

Not worth it: Spare parts

This is the second Power Master starter I've bought, the first from Jegs to void the warranty. Now this one from Revain has lasted 42 days since installation and the truck has stood still for almost 30 days. A brand new battery, fully charged, new alternator tested with new battery cables, slowly started spinning. Literally started the truck maybe 15 times. After disassembling it I found something similar inside as pieces of paint and small rocks surrounding the planetary gear, brushes and…

Save your money: Replacement parts

The starter gear is much shorter than the factory gear. It also sits much farther away and doesn't engage the full length of the flywheel teeth. The guide even shows something like 50% engagement - that's normal. how is it normal It wears out your flywheel or flexplate at record speeds or doesn't even work if you have a slightly worn flywheel/flexplate. Mine was a bit worn but worked fine with the stock starter as well as the GM Hiperformance Mini starter I replaced the Powermaster with. I…
