Powertec Band Saw Blade - Poor Quality

I ordered this blade for my Craftsman Band Saw Blade to replace a 10 year old blade. The blade arrived with a "kink" in the blade that wasn't apparent until I installed it and used it for the first time. Apparently there is a bulge where the blade was welded. Maybe the seam wasn't sanded or wasn't sanded properly? However, when I make cuts with this saw now, there is a very noticeable "spike". I haven't used it to cut anything that requires a super smooth saw line and if I need to make that…

Don't buy these blades!

I have a Craftsman band saw that uses 70 1/2 inch diameter blades. A few days ago I bought 4 new blades, 2 1/2" blades and 2 3/16" blades. When they came in the mail today (on time) I installed one of the 1/8 inch blades. The blade broke after about half an hour of use so I installed one of the 3/16 inch blades. This blade also broke after half an hour of use. Also, the paint that was on the blades got onto the wood I was cutting. The blades also made a clicking sound (from the point they were…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

PowerTec often seems to have failed in the production of cheap power tools and accessories. No, these aren't the best band saws you can buy, but they are sharp and last long enough for most hobbies. In any case, I'm not too concerned about blade marks from my band saw, since I usually make curved cuts on my disc or spindle sander for finishing. I don't think they are as durable as some of the more expensive brands but they seem to be holding up pretty well. I've used everything from 6 to 24 TPI

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance

You get what you pay for and it's not much

I broke 3 of these blades within days of receiving them. Let's assume the first two were my fault. I hadn't adjusted the guides optimally and didn't notice that the two lower guide bearings were jammed. After the first two, I learned how to optimally set up a bandsaw (from handyman Alex Snodgrass) and changed guides. Everything was set up perfectly. I cut 14 circles on the template the first day; maple and oak. On the second day, I started cutting the soft cedar with my free hand. CLICK! Not…
