Not a Square - Carpenter's Square

Judging by other reviews, my square is actually not a square. As a layman, I didn't check if it was square until my return window closed. The deviation is about 0.5 degrees. I love the look and if it were square it would be a 5 star product.

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Exchange Availability

Terrible square on measuring and marking tools

For starters, a square isn't a square. The brass side isn't even flat and has a belly in the middle so it swings on the tree. In addition, each edge is razor sharp and needs to be sanded down. But you don't have to grind it because it's useless. I've tried sanding the brass side flat but it doesn't work.

  • Delivery was very quick
Cons

Not square on carpenter's squares

Poor quality control. I considered making my own sample square but gave up because I didn't want to play around to make sure it was square. So after $10 I have a non-standard approximate square that I need a file to fix. I like its looks and it seems solid. So if it was square I would probably give it 4 or 5 stars. But the only thing I need can't do it until I fix it. I thought I was buying a tool, not a project. I'm used to tuning instruments. Planes, chisels, etc., you expect an installationโ€ฆ

This product is incredibly inaccurate.

I bought this square thinking it was square. Fool, that's not it! Not only is it not square, but the gauge marks do not start at zero at the intersection of the square's perpendicular sides. After all, it doesn't even stand out perpendicular to the wood-brass base. Although it looks great. You did it! I had to buy a Starrett C11H-4GR 0.00001 inch square to tell me the Powertech square wasn't square. I bought it in August 2010 for $20. I see it's worth $10 now. It's still overpriced.

Warning I don't have a true 90 degree angle

I really wanted to try this test angle, it looks great, is made with quality components and is a great price. The ruler has markings that are easy to read. However, the BIG problem is that it's not exactly square. I've tested mine against a number of other squares and the famous square metal block. Every time I get the same results, it's offset by 1/32 from the inside corner to the end of the ruler (8 inches). It does not violate general building and cutting requirements, but is useless as aโ€ฆ

  • Nice to use

Square and accurate

I did not check it before I had the opportunity to use it. I refuse to review anything without spending some time on it. I had an issue, but Revain quickly replaced mine with a brand new one. The first one I got was very good BUT it wasn't square. It wasn't much. I didn't get my protractor out, but it looks like it's somewhere between 1 and 3 degrees off square, which isn't much but if you're using it to line up the chainsaw guide bars to 110 inches. Poorly. Very bad. All good news! The new one

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Crumpled
