Great option for copying vinyl

Not the cheapest option and if you have an MC cartridge you will pay even more but this little box turned out to be just what I wanted. It's compact yet heavy enough to stand securely on a table next to my turntable, and the weight of the cables hanging from it doesn't affect it, so it stays in place. plug and play I'm not an audiophile (at least not anymore, most of those people are nuts anyway), but that sounds good to me. I'm not a fan of vinyl either, I just bought it to copy all my dad's…

Impressive cheap phono preamp

My receiver's phono input sounded a bit weak. The left channel also sounded slightly weaker than the right channel, which was very annoying. Of course, this isn't the best receiver on the planet. First I checked the cable connections, then the phono alignment, anti-skating adjustments, etc. There are a few more tedious troubleshooting steps, but I figured I'd add a phono preamp that feeds the phono input on my receiver eliminated. In my setup, this phono stage solved my volume problems and…

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Neutral

I have an Onkyo 8020 receiver with a phono stage preamp, but my desk makes a lot of noise. I've tried grounding it (it doesn't have a ground wire), reversing the plug, and fixing the ground loop, but nothing worked. Finally I said let's try a different preamp. By plugging the Pro-Ject from my desk into my receiver's CD input, the sound quality improved dramatically. Bypassing the preamp drastically reduced background noise and hum to the point that I don't even hear rumble, hum or desk noise…

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • There are cons

Rediscovering old friends with a new tool

Over the course of two years, I've slowly upgraded my vinyl setup. I started out with a mediocre Pyle Pro turntable and preamp at best. I got rid of it when I realized I couldn't turn the volume up to an acceptable level without starting a feedback loop. I upgraded to ATLP120 which still works. I used the built in preamp for a while but when I switched to an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge the sound became terrible. So I did the deed and removed the preamp. I've been using a Pyle Pro preamp with…

Good price - preamp

I know there are better phono stages out there but for the price this is a good unit. I also needed something small that would fit behind my turntable. I would like to get a bigger device, but I just don't have the space. I bought this as a replacement for the phono stage in my Integra receiver. The Integra phono stage is too analytical and etched. This phono stage is much more musical and relaxed. That should have been in Integra. I wish the Pro-Ject had higher extended highs and a deeper…

Pros
  • Metal case protects the unit from vibration and EMI
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Decent budget turntable

All right / dignified. I'm not saying it's often used in a derogatory sense - it's a legitimate decent/regular product meant to sound great to decent/regular players. A great budget option for budget turntables that goes well with anything in the $100-$150 range. . But I wouldn't buy this if your player is higher quality than this one. The sound really aims for that flat phono sound you want from classic rock (like CSNY, the Beatles, etc.). It seems that this unit may have been designed for use

Pros
  • Dual mono circuitry for optimized channel separation
Cons
  • Crumpled
