We had visitors this weekend and fried steak cubes and porcini mushrooms with a skewer. They worked great, the handles weren't a burn hazard, and the spear points were sharp enough to pierce food but not so sharp as to be an unexpected hazard. But they also come in a nice, sturdy zip case that will keep them organized in your closet, ready for next time. I used them for filet mignon steak and pieces of tofu, I immediately liked them for several reasons: the grill was on a low level, I felt that the heat was even so was, not the fat from the meat got on the burners to keep the fire from igniting. The meat is cooked in melted fat which keeps the meat moist, but you can trim the fat before grilling or just wipe it off while grilling, it's definitely not burned so I didn't have to peel the meat off the grill. I have other 17" skewers but they don't have wooden handles. The first thing that struck me about this product was the slight pressure that mimics the addition of food, causing the metal to curve just above the wooden handle. I can't imagine the results of adding grill heat. The tip of the skewer isn't very sharp, and still I think adding meat might be an issue. To be honest it doesn't live up to my expectations. I'm glad I didn't pay more than a dollar. I have several kebab skewers and these are by far the worst. Weak and of low quality. The processing of the wooden handles is very bad. You get what you pay for! They are suitable for "yakitori" (small) style vegetables or meat. DO NOT expect a Brazilian style kebab at this price.
