📻 PRUNUS J-982 Pocket Radio - Best Reception, AM FM Portable Transistor Radio, Battery Operated Small Walkman Radio with Headphones, Enhanced Bass - Ideal for Walking, Jogging, Camping Review

Item received in good condition. Put some batteries in and turn on the device. It worked for _two seconds_, then stopped making noise after an audible pop. You can hear the unit turn on when you flick the power button, but nothing else - no hiss on AM or FM stations, let alone music.

Powered by two AAA batteries, which some people may not like. I immediately replaced the earbuds that came with the radio with headphones (I just don't like headphones). The reception was good the first time, but the more I used it, the worse it got. Use this mostly at night, so maybe the fact that AM stations need to turn down their transmit power at sunset has something to do with it.

I purchased a Prunus J-982 radio and received the item on 28th February 2020. The radio worked fine for about a month, but now every time I try to use it the sound completely disappears after a few minutes. I would like to return the item for a refund or replacement, please. The email address listed for support on the Prunus website returns all emails with a "delivery failed" message.

Amazing bass, clear sound, good AM and FM reception. It has a "boost" bass switch that sometimes doesn't need to be toggled. Tuning is done with a side wheel that digitally steps through the setup (you can hear it). Strong to medium strong stations have several tuning steps. After buying 4 portables in this price range, this one has better sound. Even though it doesn't have a digital tuning indicator, the sound makes up for it.

Kids love listening to the radio and I've tried several AM/FM radios with digital tuners which my kids didn't like because of how obtrusive they were. -Button interfaces with simple digital numbers are not intuitive. I had a portable radio similar to this one in the 1980's and it was amazing so I figured my kids might love it - which they do! Old-school tuner dials are just more intuitive and fun than push-button digital interfaces, and it's a shame younger kids are missing out on this radio…

PROS: I like the sound (uses JVC foldable headphones which are very effective. Tried KOSS TD/60 but volume was too low for this particular model). Good selectivity at low frequencies. choose, even at low-performing college stations. excellent division. good volume range. I just got one of these Prunus J-982 radios here from Revain after watching an online video review and it works great for my use . The FM tuner on an old 1980's boombox (General Sound GS-2525) I just bought used wasn't working very well (although the AM tuner was fine) so instead of disassembling it to fix the problem with Find VHF and fix it.
