I have granddaughters with long hair. Despite the presence of a siphon for the bathroom, the drain was constantly clogged. I didn't want to use any caustic materials. My daughter mentioned the plastic snake. I bought an SDY 26" snake and it worked like a dream. I couldn't get the drain plug out. The plumber gave me very complicated instructions. Very bad choice to get this. I inserted it and twisted it to gather the hair and pull it up. Instead of hair falling out, the whole thing was unhooked and everything was left in the sewers. I had to call tech support to have them drain the tub. I threw away the rest and ordered others that I had previously bought. I have read other reviews of this product. There was a lot of negativity and I was worried I was buying junk. It's NOT junk: It went through the tortuous parts of the gutter fairly easily and I was able to push it down until my finger stops. I had to clean 2 sinks. The first one wasn't that bad and took very little time to clear. The second was a bit more difficult and required some work. BUT, now everything is clear. The trick is to insert at as many sink entry points as possible. Then, slowly but carefully, push and pull up and down for at least 10-15 seconds. Then lift the bar and clean it of dirt (usually hair). Then paste it somewhere else on the drain and repeat the process. After a while, you can fill the sink with hot water

I think this is a good blocking device right under the drain, probably only helps with this or that trap or whatever it's called because of the sharp drain angle only makes a few inches return. (Sorry, don't know all the jargon). I mean empty the bathtub. I also think you need to remove the drain cap before using. Mine comes off easily with a flathead screwdriver.
