Description of 🎤 Raspberry Pi ReSpeaker 4-Mic Array by Seeed Studio, Advanced Raspberry Pi Microphone

ReSpeaker 4-Mic Array for Raspberry Pi(Pi 3/Pi 4 B +) is a 4 microphone expansion board for Raspberry Pi designed for AI and voice applications. This means that you can build a more powerful and flexible voice product that integrates Amazon Alexa Voice Service, Google Assistant, and so on. Different from ReSpeaker 2-Mics Pi HAT, this board is developed based on AC108, a highly integrated quad-channel ADC with I2S/TDM output transition for high definition voice capture. Besides, this 4-Mics version provides a super cool LED ring, which contains 12 APA102 programmable LEDs.With that 4 microphones and the LED ring, Raspberry Pi would have ability to do VAD(Voice Activity Detection), estimate DOA(Direction of Arrival) and show the direction via LED ring, just like Amazon Echo or Google Home. This Raspberry Pi microphone support all Raspberry Pi models, including Raspberry Pi Zero, Raspberry Pi 1 B+, Pi 2 B, Pi 3 B, Pi 3 B+,Pi 4 B. ReSpeaker 4-Mic array does not have audio output. If this is a requirement please consider the ReSpeaker 6-Mic Circular Array Kit For Raspberry Pi, the ReSpeaker 4-Mic Linear Array Kit for Raspberry Pi , or the ReSpeaker Mic Array v2.0.

Missing documentation. Difficult to fully implement.

I probably spent 40 hours trying to get this thing to work but there just isn't a clear "instruction manual". When I search for basic usage information, I am directed to other products. They provide some "example python scripts" but no explanation. I tried to write to the user forum but there was no reply. I think this product will be discontinued or will be soon.

Pros
  • handy thing
Cons
  • modern

Great audio input for computers and accessories

Bought this for my raspberry pi for voice input and it hears me every time. I have a difficult to hear voice, but no problems with it so far. Installation was easy.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • No color needed

No custom algorithms

Easy installation. It's worth it for a little experimentation and proof of concept. Unfortunately, you don't have the option to customize the algorithms like the Mic Array v2 counterpart. Due to a lack of support, you have to rely on the experiences of other users in the official forum. I do not recommend it for reliable voice applications.

Pros
  • Wide set
Cons
  • Useless features

Great little microphone array

This microphone array is great for long distance speech recognition. I used this for a smart DIY wall speaker with Alexa built in. The lighting looks great and the microphone picks up my voice with no problems.

Pros
  • Best of its niche

Noisy signal is good for computer components

Unless you point it directly at yourself and are within a foot of it, your voice is indistinguishable from the static noise it picks up .

Pros
  • Easy-to-read control panel
Cons
  • No shape required

Good product, few problems

Functionally, the microphone works well. Installing the driver is easy once you find it. There are two main criticisms: The installation guide that came with the device was unclear, but it's easy to find with a web search. The driver installation downgrades the kernel in Debian Buster. Fix it and I'll adjust to 5 stars.

Pros
  • Computers and accessories
Cons
  • There are disadvantages

Solid Generally good for computer components

The hardware of the device is very good. The microphones work well, as does the light. The biggest problem is the software. The documentation is good for configuring the device, but useless after that. There are no instructions for controlling the light, and if you don't know Python you won't be able to figure it out. The rest of the product works quite well.

  • Electronics
