Not for most people; for fine art or documentation

If you are a good photographer and value image quality, this could be your camera. If you want an easy-to-use camera and want to take lots of shots quickly, this is definitely NOT for you. The only attractive feature of this camera is the combination of a unique sensor and a high-quality fixed focal length lens (non-detachable). While it can take pictures in JPG format, the results are poor. In order to get good photos, you need to use RAW format and convert the photos on your computer. This…

Best Sigma DP Camera!

You either love this camera or you hate it. I like it. After reading the reviews on each of the Sigma DP cameras and owning them all (DP1, DP2, DP1m, DP3m), I realized that the negative reviews were mostly written by people who don't actually own the cameras. . Previous reviewers have pretty much covered the pros and cons (in well-written reviews), no need to repeat it all again. Here are some tips: 1) The odd shape is actually comfortable to use, with a much better coverage area than any…

Foveon sensors are the best.

Very interesting camera. Doesn't record video, battery life is relatively short (that's why 2 is provided), autofocus is average, there's no image stabilization, the Sigma software takes a little time to process, and you probably need to shoot at ISO 100, and certainly not higher than 400 unless you are not shooting in monochrome. Those are the downsides. And the truth is, they don't really matter because as soon as you see the RAW images produced by the camera's Foveon sensor, especially on a…

A welcome improvement on the Sigma DP line

After almost two years of using the Sigma DP2 Merrill (as well as the DP1 and DP3 Merrill) the DP2 Quattro is a welcome improvement in usability and image quality. Here's what I like about the DP2 Quattro compared to the DP2 Merrill:1. Longer battery life, 2-3 times more shots on a single charge. I rarely have to change the battery more than once a day.2. Much faster recording time. Less than 5 seconds when shooting in RAW+JPEG.3. Higher resolution display (no more jelly shakes).4. Improved…

Pros
  • A durable build
Cons
  • A dubious purchase for the elderly

Rating Dp2Q is good for point and shoot digital cameras

Used the camera for a few days in the Sigma test. As a previous user of Sigma Dp1 (Original) and Dp2M. It was interesting to see what has changed for the better and for the worse. Some first impressions compared to Dp2M.1. The camera is much more responsive and takes faster frame by frame.2. The screen is much better than the previous generation.3. The camera is longer and takes some getting used to. But feels very well made / feels more premium than the previous generation.4. JPEGS is VERY…

  • Great for a small home

Wow! Big step forward.

Wow! This is a big step forward for the Sigma line (IMHO). It has a very cool design and is *much* smoother and faster than my DP1x (but I also like its compact size and ease of use). It's certainly a unique design and more, but I feel like it fits my hand perfectly. No problem. In my first tests, I was able to hold the camera handheld and get a decent shot at 1/15, which surprised me (these cameras don't have image stabilization). Right out of the box I charged the battery, put in the SD card,
