💾 Advanced RAID Utility Software: SoftRAID 5 Review

Worst user experience in a professional software suite I've encountered. The serial number checker does not recognize dashes and therefore tells you that your serial number is invalid. They "lost" my account login details every two years. The app will force an update and then ignore it during installation to tell you that you need to pay for a new version and that you're really just using a trial license. Damn. Garbage.

Very easy to understand and use. An intuitive user interface with valuable information about the status and configuration of your hard drives. flash power. My only complaint is the cost of the software. It was supposed to be half the price but as there are no real alternatives I paid the price.

Product is slow. I bought with SoftRaid 5.8.4 and SoftRaid 6 was in beta. They shipped but I asked them to return the item. I have not received the package and have not opened it. They flatly refused. Then, when SoftRaid 6, which is required for Big Sur, came out, I was charged $50 to upgrade. Now I had to upgrade to use it on Big Sur (which was my goal from the start). Slightly more complex than previous versions with new ways to make mistakes, but overall a useful data management application. I'm wary of OWC having had bad luck with their gear in the past. Luckily, OWC bought both companies they replaced in my workflow: SoftRAID and akitio. Let's hope they manage the acquired assets well.

I've been looking for a faster storage/raid solution for my photography and HD video hobbies for a long time. My existing raid was a NetGear NAS with RAID5 over Fast Ethernet - the fastest at the time, but overgrown. Over the past 5 years I have purchased multiple licenses for this product directly from OWC. As it stands, this is a great product and a must have for anyone wanting to combine multiple drives into a single volume. Now that Apple has downgraded RAID support, not only is it the only product, it's much better than Apple's software RAID version. The support is great and the product is absolutely reliable. Highly recommended.
