Very expensive fake

I had the same problem as Pathguy where the AF motor suddenly failed, except mine failed 4 months after the warranty expired. :( I sent it to Precision which was a Sony authorized repair center (from the Sony website) and they charged me 850 for the motor repair. The lens now has trouble focusing in low light, which it didn't before Precision forgot to send me back the black and white filter that was attached to the lens.

Amazing lens, greatly improved over the first version

Amazing lens, greatly improved over the first version. I bought it to use with my Sony A7rii with LAEA3 adapter and the results are amazing. I compared with the new G-Master lens and I liked it, the color reproduction and sharpness are identical. If you can get it for a few hundred less than the original price, you're also buying a great piece of glass for events, portraits, and moderate wide-angle shots. I highly recommend this lens.

Heavy, expensive and very, very good - a classic Zeiss zoom lens for general use but lacking some grandeur.

This is a classic Zeiss lens - big, heavy, expensive, with excellent build quality, with a very smooth and solid zoom mechanism. It was recently updated, possibly before the new Sony A99II, and its predecessor, version 1, was a classic for a reason. So why only four stars? Well if I could put 4.5/5 I think that would be a more accurate rating but it loses half a star just for its cost and the fact that it's not the best 24-70 2.8 on the market - that honor belongs to the Canon 24-70 L2. It hasโ€ฆ
