I spent more time scraping the oil off my pen than putting it on the corn husks. The combs weren't wide enough for the corn husks. It was easier to use a plastic paint scraper from the hardware store.

These things work great and do exactly what they should. My wife and I had to make 300 tamales for our son's soccer team and when we made them by hand it took forever and the hardest part was always spreading out the masa. I bought these to help us and they did a great job, they're just not as wide as most bowls so the tamales are smaller than the local vendor's. However, when using them, the job was done much faster.

I wish I could recommend them to others. They seem like a great idea and I've seen many videos of women using them with ease. The problem is that it really depends on the type of masa you're making. If it's too soft, it won't stick to these spatulas, rendering them useless. If your tamales are much drier the masa really sticks and the tool works great. I bought this for my mom and she will not change her prescription to use a new remedy.

I cook tamale several times a year with family and friends, they want to help and hope to reap the rewards lol. We usually have a big tamale dinner and everyone goes home with a few dozen tamales. This is amazing. Easy to use. The thing to buy! I've been making tamales the old fashioned way, with the back of a spoon, for many years. Now that arthritis sets in, it saves lives and saves time. You will never use a spoon again. It only took me about 5 attempts to get the thickness I wanted. Place a large drop of masa on the table, then use the shaker to pick up the masa and spread it out. Once you get the hang of it, it's very easy to use. I used it and liked it a lot, but my mom didn't want to "waste time" and learn how to use it. She literally tried a corn husk and refused. She went with a good old spatula. Depending on whether you're willing to spend a little time learning how to use it, this might be for you. I liked it and the time was reduced.
