This is a great device for mixing old technology with new. My mom has an older Bose 123 system that doesn't have an HDMI output or component cable. Meanwhile their newest TV doesn't have an S-Video input and I don't think it has video or I have something else hooked up to it. Anyway, I found this device as a solution and it has been working great for her for over a year.

There are many other similar products much cheaper that convert RCA to HDMI. It seems to be one of the few that can output videos in 480p. It also doesn't crop the top and bottom of the image like other cheaper ones do. To do this you will need a cable with RCA audio jacks on one end and a 3.5mm jack on the other end. Not cheap but works VERY well. I HIGHLY recommend it if you need to convert S-Video to HDMI. I really like that it has switches (e.g. to choose S-Video or Composite, output resolution, etc.). Therefore, it reverts to the same settings every time you turn it on.

For those with VHS, Laser Disk and other legacy video equipment that switch via S-Video switches and stereo audio, VID2HDCON is a great interface for the current generation of flat panel TVs, those don't come with s-video inputs. StarTech's video and audio quality is very good.

Information about how this device works is contradictory, so I want to clarify. THIS UNIT DOES NOT SUPPORT CIRCUIT OUTPUT. I bought this to convert my old S-Video outputs to HDMI, mainly because my new TV and A/V Receiver doesn't support S-Video have connections. Since this product only converts for one device, I used an S-Video multi-input selector that I already had on hand. This product does a good job of converting S-Video to HDMI.
