Extreme Let-Down fits plugs and adapters

Mine doesn't work. Haven't used it until the end of the 30 day return policy. I needed to connect to a Cisco router I bought and had to resort to setting up an old laptop with an RS232 port. I suspect the cable is dead. However, I don't have a cable tester to check that. I'm surprised a dead wire is overlooked. Instead I will buy an RS232 adapter and not any other cable or adapter. In the end, the rollover RS232 I own actually works.

Pros
  • Well built
Cons
  • No

Does what it's advertised to do

Nothing fancy here, it's just an adapter that converts your straight Ethernet cable into an inverted cable. Instead of having to reuse the official Cisco rollover cables for my console if a pin on the ethernet connector breaks, I can use any old straight ethernet cable, plug it into the adapter, and continue on my way. It might end up being a little more expensive, but the flexibility it gives you with your comforting needs is worth the small extra cost.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Only available in white

Works great but will interfere with neighboring ports

Ideal for converting a standard patch cord into a swiveling console cord. Unfortunately, it has a ledge that extends the adapter down into the socket space above or below. This is not unique to this particular adapter/vendor, adapters from other vendors are the same. In many cases this is not a problem. The console connections on my Juniper and Cisco setup themselves, with no port above/below the console port, so there's no problem using an adapter. My Arista has the console port directly above

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure

Works with Cat5/e and CAT6 cables, even older Cat3 cables. Good Advice / Use only high quality, well-crimped and properly twisted wires with this adapter when the distance is longer than normal and TELNET is not working or forbidden. Officially, 9600 bps is supported up to 15 feet, but modern devices can successfully connect over longer distances. I have expanded this range with the help of devices such as USB extension cables.
