NOT for newer systems

This does not work on newer Linux kernels, support told me that an older kernel is required (see ST website for information). This driver is built-in, no need to download a driver and play around with Linux. But that's not the case with the new Linux. I couldn't even learn enough to get something to work/mod with. They only have a Win driver, but Win10 will probably handle that on its own. TBF is PCI so I shouldn't be surprised but the product description should really make that clear. The…

This SATA/eSATA adapter card works great on my 10 year old PC

This SATA/eSATA adapter board works great on my 10 year old PC. Unfortunately, my motherboard or bios doesn't allow me to boot from this device like I was hoping. This is probably not due to the product at all and most likely due to the outdated nature of the motherboard I am using.

Pros
  • . Everything is great!
Cons
  • Expensive

Works only on Windows

Includes a flat mount. Turned off the PCI slot. This card allows you to use eSATA on older computers, but only on Windows with the VIA RAID drivers provided on a small CD. I use it to back up my disk with image for windows to an external drive. It takes 15 minutes. If I need to restore a disk I will not use this card - I will plug the disk with the backup into a free SATA port for the BIOS to see and BootItBM, which boots from USB, will use the backup to do that restore drive. If your computer…

Suitable for hard drives - not for optical drives

The card is easy to install - just plug it into the PCI slot and run the included driver installation CD. This gives you an internal SATA connector and an external connector. However, as I found out and confirmed with the company, do not use this card if you intend to connect a SATA DVD or CD drive to your computer. It is designed for SATA hard drives only. It worked fine for me when I connected a hard drive to it, but it didn't work with an optical drive.

Pros
  • Fits many
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Causes data transfer errors and slows down my system

It wasn't very good as shown in the listing, some options are missing during production, severely limiting throughput. I had other VIA expansion buses and had similar problems. I also did a little research on where the company came from and it didn't seem like a very good source to me.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

Great way to connect a SATA drive to an old PC

I've already needed to increase storage space on an old PC and have used this card to connect a SATA drive to a Windows XP PC. When I had to do the same thing again, I went back to that trusty SATA controller. Important Security Tip: You cannot use a SATA drive as a boot drive on a Windows XP computer.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • boring package
