Surprisingly high quality

I used to frequent flea markets to build up my collection of woodworking tools and on my list of things to find was a Speed Square. But I didn't have the patience to wait for luck to get me to the Speed Square Sale and the price of this one was right so I ordered it. Although cast in plastic, all edges were perfectly flat and free from manufacturing defects and seem strong enough to withstand the measurements and drawings I had planned for it. looked bent out of a square. I'm glad I went with…

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Lack of machining makes the tool look less square

If only the edges were flat and smooth. I wish they sanded/smoothed the edges properly. There are still throw lines along all edges that affect the draw lines. Since they run right down the middle, they don't interfere with my ruler, which is thin enough to fit completely under this mold residue. Pretty square with the square test (draw a line, then flip the square and redraw). Slight deviation (<1/64) about 18 inches. Less than the width of my 0.5mm pencil lead. As I draw the lines, I feel…

Pros
  • Beveled edge for better readability
Cons
  • Wrinkled

An essential tool for the DIY enthusiast

I'm a simple handyman and my only power tool for cutting wood and completing projects is a saw. I can now safely and easily mark distances and straight lines (including angle lines) with the speed square, and I can now easily cut straight lines using the speed square as a guide (see YouTube video on speed squares). This simple tool has made DIY projects infinitely easier and more accurate. I can't speak for accuracy like some pros can, but it gets the job done for the main projects I work on…

Pros
  • Made of lightweight, high impact structural composite material
Cons
  • A dubious purchase for the elderly
