The baker should have it!

Oven temperatures vary, and if they differ too far from what you set your baking to be, it may not turn out as you hoped. I think oven thermometers are a must for serious bakers. This one works great. We recently moved and after moving I couldn't find my original Taylor Classic oven thermometer. I strongly suspected that the oven temperature in the new house was slightly different. I ordered a new thermometer and am very satisfied. The oven I used ran over 50 degrees hotter than expected. With…

My oven was too hot

I was wondering why my baked goods are coming out with mixed results. So I decided to buy this oven thermometer primarily to find out how well the temperature sensor built into the oven works. actually it was. Come find out if I believe that, the "oven sensor" is off more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Now I no longer wonder why my products didn't come out right! types of bread and it is important to respect the required baking time and temperature. Especially with bread, the crust becomes hard…

Cracks and glass turned grey/black

This is my second attempt at this oven thermometer. I've only bought it twice because it was highly recommended for its accuracy and I bake a lot and need to know my oven is at the right temperature. However, both thermometers cracked and the glass on both turned grey/black in the oven. The thermometer shows up to 600 degrees. I regularly cook at 550°C and after a few uses the glass turns gray-black, difficult to see through. Also, the glass cracked the last time the oven was turned on. I'm…

Okay, but my second choice.

I purchased and tested five oven thermometers, including: • Taylor Classic Large Scale Oven Thermometer ($6.12) • CDN DOT2 ProAccurate Oven Thermometer ($9.00) • Rubbermaid Commercial Oven Control Oven Thermometer ($5.95) • Kitchen Oven Thermometer Admetior ( $15.99) • Winco TMT-OV3 ($7.32) Taylor was good. It was both accurate and responsive. For reasons of readability, I gave it the 3rd out of 5 points, as the numbers are not bold and the grid is too narrow due to the range from 100° to 600°.

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • The list will be long.

was a little worried our old oven might not be accurate exactly, which is very important to me as I like to cook often, especially pastries, and have moved on to more complex recipes where temperature is more important. It took a few times to figure out the best position in the oven, but we also checked it against a second thermometer and it's dead accurate - turns out our oven was actually about 10 degrees off the digital readout. Best placement is hanging from the top rack in the center of…

I went to good old Dr. Google and started researching why that is.

I had strange cooking problems. I've tried new recipes for cakes, lunches, and snacks and they always come out uncooked and raw, even though I followed TI's directions and didn't really cook at the right temperature. I bought it because it was cheap, just wanted to see if the temperature was the issue. When I first got it he told me it cooks 20 degrees LOWER than I set the oven to. I thought it was complete rubbish for nothing so I bought another one thinking it was broken - same thing. So the…
