Great buy for the money

This DVD player is a great buy for the price. I've had it for about 3 years now and the only problem I can report is that it randomly pauses for about 3-5 seconds throughout the movie, usually about once an hour. Considering this DVD player usually costs under $60, plays DIVX, plays recorded DVDs/CDs, and is a Toshiba brand, that's a great deal! Also, I have HDMI support so I can easily connect it to my HDTV. The picture quality that the DVD player puts out is excellent, as is the sound. I've…

Only kept it for one reason (no region)

I bought this player because it was the cheapest upconverted DVD player with HDMI (1.1 output) I could find in a store. It didn't come with an HDMI cable, so I had to buy one (which was actually more expensive than the player). It definitely looks and feels like a very cheap player - very light and feels flimsy. After a year of frustration with a Philips DivX player I found this Toshiba to be a huge improvement. My main reasons for buying this player were DivX support, a decent remote control and fast video filename recognition. Philips didn't recognize many DivX and XVID files, it sometimes took more than a minute to set up menus for a DivX encoded CD or DVD, and the remote control was the worst design I've ever seen. above. In the previous test, they complained about the lack of memory settings…

Currently the best budget Divx player

I currently have a Toshiba 4800 DVD player and a Philips 642 Divx/DVD player. I use Philips to play Divx/Xvid files but the picture quality is not as good as great Toshiba, so I've continued to use the latter for DVDs. I was very interested in Divx/Xvid. I was hoping it would fix the shortcomings of the first generation of Philips players and it has: 28 character filename display instead of 11 characters on Philips - Playback of GMC and QPEL encoded files causing problems on Philips - Standard…
