Get V3 instead of V1.x

This is a great device, easy to set up and packed with features. The only reason I'm removing a star is because some vendors are still shipping V1 devices that don't support AES security and haven't had firmware updates since 2018. Your iPhone will tell you that you are using weak security (WPA2-TKIP) with this version. In addition, the speed is limited to 54 Mbit/s. Make sure you get RE305 V3, not V1.x.

Great for wifi, wish I knew the ethernet connection is only 100mbps

Bought to move my server downstairs. It used to be connected to Gbps but stood in the living room. The wi-fi signal in the basement was weak so I decided to get this device and then connect my server to the ethernet port. Somehow the repeater can get close to 1Gbps at 5GHz, but they opted for a 100Mbps ethernet port. It's stable when transferring files, but I can't use all the internet bandwidth when needed.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Works as advertised so far.

I have had several of these repeaters and this is the best I have found. Easy WPS setup with the ability to use simple 192.168.0.254 protocol controls and even use the app. I didn't notice any lag when streaming HD video and browsing on multiple devices in 2.4, but in 5g I can only stream HD video to one device at a time, otherwise it freezes and buffers. . The range is enough to go 30 feet through three interior walls. My only concern is that it will burn out due to the heat generated.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • No color required

It's easy to kick. Low signal strength within 30 feet of base station.

Advantages: Easy installation. It paired easily via WPS when I was in the same room as the base station. Cons: No/weak signal only 30 feet from base unit through two interior walls. I ended up buying an AmpliFi HD Wifi MeshPoint (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YM2VMR4) for $$$ that connected to the same place where the TP connection failed. AmpliFi works great. Don't waste your time with those cheap extension cords. I am not affiliated with AmpliFi and this is a direct link, not an…

Works like a charm, fixed a bad wifi zone in my house, easy to set up

This is the third device I've bought. Every time I find that I have bad WiFi at home, I buy one of these and the problem is fixed immediately. Very easy to set up (even for a layman like me) it only takes a minute. The trick is to first install it very close to the router so it can provide a good connection. You can then just unplug it, move it to where the problem is occurring, plug it in there, and you're good to go. It is really that easy. And in the year+ of using these things, I've never…

Refurbished and weak data transmission

I love TP-Link products. I have used their routers exclusively for the past 5 years. Firstly, I didn't realize I was buying a refurbished product and that's what I got. Second, and more importantly, what I needed to do wasn't accomplished. I have a large 2,000 square foot two story townhouse with a dead zone in my bedroom. It works, but gives out so little Mbps that it's not worth it. I could possibly get a second extender, but I'm not sure if the extra data transfer will improve my speed. In…

Small investment, big profit!

In times of COVID. This is how the story begins. Let's set it up. Combine the elements of work from home, premium quiet, affordable indoor spaces, and great weather, and you have a situation where an indoor patio is not only perfect for your daily work schedule, it becomes GREAT! The only problem is that the Wi-Fi is at the other end of the property, with a bulkhead of solid construction in between, as well as a steep wall and other sources of interference. I've missed Zoom meetings, received…
