I used the lighting kit to decorate the shelf with figures. It's perfect? No, but it costs $20. First, the limitations of this kit are partly due to the fact that it is not modular and the wire segments are fixed between each light strip. I really liked how easy it was to install! I literally have about 8 inches of light left that I tucked behind the edge of the last cabinet. Unfortunately there is no way to cut the cords and make pieces out of them so I had to drape it under the microwave which is still ok because our microwave doesn't work anyway lol. So that was our first "installation" of light strips. SO MUCH FUN! Not that we're "experts" but I'll share some of our insights with you: I want to order a cooler white instead of a warm white. Warm glow is fine, but not suitable for task lighting. Keep in mind that if you expect enough light to see well while getting tasks done, you should opt for a brighter white - you can always dim it with your remote if it's too bright.
